March 5, 1952 - December 3, 2018
Marne passed away peacefully December 3, 2018 after a fierce battle with ALS with her family at her side. Marne leaves behind to grieve, her husband Brian Hicks and her dog Sara, son Jody McIlmoyl (Lisa), granddaughters Tristyn and Phoenix, her sister Judy Strobbe-Cyr (Robin), brother Ole Svennes, aunt Dorothy Gaudreault and many cousins.

Marne was born on March 5, 1952 in Trail BC to Arne Svennes and Mabelle Strobbe. She grew up in the Kootenays before moving to Campbell River in 1977 with Jody. Marne worked at several different jobs before she found her dream job as co-ordinator of the Campbell River Women's Centre. Marne was a certified Life Skills Coach and she was able to use her skills and her passion to help countless women and children to find a better life. Marne took that commitment to helping people wherever she travelled and left an indelible legacy in Kelowna as well as in her role as Team Leader at the NIEFS Port Hardy office.

Marne had many achievements in her life and two of which she was particularly proud of was being a founding member of the Campbell River Business and Professional Women's Network and the second one was when as a sixty-year-old woman she made a solo ride on her Harley Davidson motorcycle from Port Hardy through the Okanagan and on to Nelson.

Marne's commitment to excellence, her positive outlook and desire to be in the solution made her a wonderful role model and inspired countless people wherever she went, and she will be missed terribly by many.

Marne's family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the women and men who cared for her during her illness, Doctors Malloff, Bedekker, and Prinsloo as well as all the wonderful people from Campbell River Home Support and the team at Campbell River Home and Community Care. We would also like to thank everyone at Yucalta Lodge for their care and compassion. It touched us deeply to see how much you cared for our dear Marne.

There will be a service of remembrance for Marne on Sunday, December 16 at 1 pm at the Willow Point Community Hall. The family requests in lieu of flowers that a donation in her memory be made to your local ALS Association or your local Hospice. Also, in the spirit of the season Marne would like you to perform a random act of kindness.
