In Loving Memory ~
1959 ~ 2025
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of my beloved husband, Mark Sydney Ponting, who left us on February, 24th 2025.
Mark was a remarkable man whose passion for life touched everyone around him. He dedicated his career to the forest industry, working as a logging road builder along the rugged coast of British Columbia.
Known throughout Vancouver Island and the Mid Coast, Mark was not only respected for his professionalism but also cherished for his unwavering commitment to family and friends. He was hard-working and always went above and beyond the call of duty, lending a helping hand to those in need. His handshake held a promise and was a testament to his integrity and strong character.
Mark was a larger-than-life presence, full of energy and ambition. He had an unwavering love for the water often found boating and fishing, and he delighted in the serenity it brought him. His adventurous spirit also led him to take to the skies, where he enjoyed flying in his helicopter, embarking on new journeys and exploring the beauty of the world from above.
Mark's legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. He leaves behind a family and close friends who will always remember his kindness, determination, and zest for life.
Mark's dedication extended to his roles as a husband and father. He took pride in his children and grandchildren. Survived by his loving wife Nancy, Lindsey (Chris), Cody (Natalie) Stephanie Cook, Tyler Abric (Ednalyn) and Cory Abric; grandchildren Madison, Axel, Bodie, and Ava; and his beloved Aunt Linda, sisters Lori (Mike), Cari (Bert), Leah, sister-in-law Dove (Mike), brother-in-law Kevin and along with numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
Mark was predeceased by his father John Ponting, mother Carol Boudreau, Uncle Vern Logan, and son-in-law Jared Cook. He will be remembered as a beloved figure whose absence leaves an unmistakable void in the lives of those who had the privilege to know him.
His involvement in various clubs and organizations, such as the Coast Guard Auxiliary and was on the board of directors for Truck Loggers Association, showcased his dedication not only to his passions but also to the community. Mark's hobbies included boating, scuba diving, fishing, hunting, and riding his Harley, reflecting his adventurous spirit and love for the outdoors. His enthusiasm for cars and trucks was another mark of his vibrant personality, sharing stories and experiences that brought joy to those around him.
In lieu of flowers, we kindly request donations be made to MARS wildlife rescue or local dog shelters, honoring Mark's compassionate nature and love for animals. His generous spirit extended to every aspect of his life, impacting both friends and strangers alike.
A Celebration of Mark's Life will be held on May 24, 2025 at 1 PM at the Campbell River Community Centre, 401 - 11th Ave, Campbell River, BC. We invite all who knew him to come together, share in their memories, and celebrate a life well-lived.
The family would also like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the doctors and staff at Comox Hospital's Telemetry unit for their support and care during Mark's final days.
Mark will forever be missed, yet his spirit and the profound impact he made on our lives will remain with us always.
