Margaret Mary “Peggy” Venus
August 12, 1921 ~ January 16, 2011
Peggy was born in Barrow-in-Furnace, England and emigrated to Canada with her parents at age 2. She was raised in Nanaimo, BC and excelled in academics and sports. Peggy met and married her husband Ernie in Nanaimo, and most of their married life was spent in logging camps all over Vancouver Island, where they made numerous life-long friends. They retired in Campbell River in 1982. Peggy did volunteer work with many social clubs; she was an avid reader, wonderful seamstress and gourmet cook. She continued to participate in many sports until later in life when she became a dedicated Blue Jays fan.
One of Mom’s favorite quotes was “Laugh and the world laughs with you”. She taught the joy and strength of laughter to all her beloved family ~ she will be greatly missed.
Peggy is survived by her loving family: her husband of 69 years, Ernie; son, Glenn (Shannon); daughter, Linda Thompson (John); grandchildren: Stephen (Katy), Geoffrey, Shawna Smith (Jason), Lorri-Anne Blancher, Tricia Weaver (Curt), Meghan Unger (Brett) and Patrick O’Brien (Alicia); 9 great-grandchildren and brother, Edward Fryers (Gerry).
Predeceased by her brother, Jack; parents, Sarah and Ned Fryers and daughter, Gayle O’Brien.
No formal service will be held. A large family gathering will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Peggy’s name to a charity of your choice.
