In loving memory ~
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Marc Steven Crane, a devoted father, grandfather, partner, uncle, brother, and friend. Marc passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones, on January 8, 2025. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and a life well-lived.
In his youth, he was an avid water skier, spending summers skiing and teaching others to water-ski on Long Lake Nanaimo, near their family home. There was much laughter and mischief in his younger years with his brothers Scott and Ross and his sister Marilyn.
Marc enjoyed music, especially Bruce Springsteen, and was known for his signature "crazy legs," bringing fun and energy to every dance floor. He was a lifelong student, starting many master's degree programs to soak up as much knowledge as possible. He taught at Malaspina University/College where many friends were made.
In his professional life, Marc was a guiding force for many small businesses on Vancouver Island. As a manager of Community Futures, he helped countless entrepreneurs get their start, offering support and mentorship. His dedication to his community and his ability to uplift others was a testament to his generosity and commitment. He met many people and made many more friends through his years in that role.
Marc was a dedicated runner who completed many races including the Royal Victoria Marathon, and his love for sports went beyond the finish line. He was a passionate hockey fan, always eager to share his enthusiasm for the game. He played hockey as a youth earning the nickname Mighty Mouse and continued to play hockey into his 60's.
Whether it was camping, boating, driving his tractor, planting trees or tending to his garden, Marc found peace in the simple pleasures outdoors. He loved to start new projects and learn new things such as growing lavender to attract bees, hops to make beer and raising lambs. He also loved to travel, especially to sunny destinations where he could soak up the warmth and recharge. These things were especially important to him after his stroke in 2017 and was fortunate to enjoy these most recently with his partner Debbie Bull.
Marc is survived by his sister, Marilyn McKnight, his two daughters, Chelsea Barr and Landis Scheibel, and his five grandchildren, Quintin, Neely, Lennox, Nixon, and Taves, who brought him immeasurable pride and joy. He could be found in the stands supporting them at their hockey, soccer, lacrosse and dance competitions.
Marc will be deeply missed. His spirit, kindness, and zest for living will never be forgotten, and those who knew him will always cherish the time spent in his company.
In lieu of a service, an everyone welcome skate at Frank Crane Arena February 18th will be sponsored by the Crane Family, as a tribute to Marc and to the Crane Family members we have already said goodbye to.
A private ceremony will be held in the Spring. If you have any memories or stories of Marc that you would like to share, please post on his Facebook page, or email them to landiscrane@hotmail.com. His family would be honoured to read and share them at the private event.
Rest in peace, Marc.
Your love, warmth, and light
will continue to shine brightly
in the hearts of those who loved you.
