Doreen (Montgomery) Smith was born in Edmonton Alberta on Feb. 10, 1915. She took her teacher's training at the Normal School and started her first position in Tomahawk Alberta. She spent many years teaching in Ontario and all over Alberta, finally retiring from MacDougall School in Calgary. Known by many as "Monty", she was an avid sportsperson enjoying many years of golf and bowling which she enjoyed well into her 80's. Her last ten years were spent in Campbell River with her daughter Sandra, watching the Cruise Ships, whales and Eagles pass by.

She was predeceased by her parents, and siblings Bill Montgomery, Bob Montgomery, Helen Ford, her son Robert (Bob) Smith and 2 nephews Alan Ford and Spencer Montgomery. She is survived by her loving daughter Sandra Richardson (Campbell River), three grandchildren; Suzanne (Mike) Chartrand (Sherwood Park Alta) Lisa (Lorne) Schmuland (Penticton), and Scott (Tara) Richardson (Campbell River) and two great grandchildren Jade and Nikolai Cadonic. Many thanks to Drs Smit, Wood, Lebeuf and Daniels. Thank you also to the staff at Sunshine Lodge and New Horizons for their loving care of mom. Arrangements entrusted to Island Funeral Services, Elk Falls Cremation and Reception Centre, Campbell River. No flowers please.
