Doreen Long passed away at home on December 23, 2007 at the age of 74. She was predeceased by her husband, Donald and her sister, Betty MacAulay. Left to miss her are her daughter Debra (Alfonso) Long of Courtenay, son Darrell (Toni) Long of Denver Colorado, son Donald (Kimberly) Long of Airdrie, Alta., grandson Alan (Shelly) Long, grandson Tyler Long, granddaughter Shelby Long and great-grandchildren Emma and Jacob Long. She is also survived by her siblings: Eleanor Miller, Pauline Pilkington, Patricia Molland and Harold Long.

Doreen was born on August 22, 1933 in Edmonton, Alberta, the third daughter of the late Percy and Ada Long. At the age of 7, she moved with her family to Courtenay. Soon after graduation, Doreen married Donald. After living a few years in Edmonton, the couple returned to raise their family in Campbell River. In 1965, Doreen and Donald moved to Santa Clara, California where they remained until deciding to return to Canada. They lived briefly in Summerland before settling down in the Comox Valley.

Doreen’s interests included reading, stain glass and travelling. She took immense pleasure in sharing time and stories with her family and friends. In addition, Doreen enjoyed a career in bookkeeping and was co-owner of Trumpeter Construction.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Doreen at Piercy’s Funeral Home on Saturday, January 19th at 2 p.m. with Rev. Ray Brandon officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in honour of Doreen’s memory to the Cancer Care Unit at St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation or the charity of one’s choice.
