Louis Philippe (Phil) Gaudreault

May 9, 1924 – December 18, 2009

Phil passed away peacefully at Yucalta Lodge Friday morning with his family holding his hands. Phil was very dedicated to his family and his community, working at the Elk Falls Mill and volunteering for many organizations through the years – the Handicap Association, Knights of Columbus and Hospice to name a few.

Phil was a builder. As a teenager, he built ships for the War before heading overseas to fight himself. Back home he built houses, saw mills and even a hydro electric dam. After helping build an addition to the Elk Falls Mill in the sixties, he decided to stay to build a family and a community in Campbell River.

Phil will be missed by his wife Dorothy, his children Aileen (Iain), Neil (Heather) and Maureen, his grand children, Lucas, Katie, William and Evelyn, his brothers, Andre (Doris) and John (Sarah), sisters Yvonne VerBeek (John) and Therese Lynch (James), nieces, nephews and cousins, and all their families and friends.

Phil was predeceased by his father Pierre Paul, his mother Marie Anne, his brother Paul, sisters Marie (William), Juliette (John) and Joan.

A special thanks to amazing staff at Yucalta Lodge for the loving and dignified way they cared for Phil and our family for over a year and especially in the last days of his life.

A Memorial Service will be held for Phil on Saturday, January 23 at 2 PM at St. Patrick’s Church in Campbell River.

In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations in memory of Phil may be made to the Campbell River Food Bank Society, 1671 Petersen Road, Campbell River, V9W 3J7.
