It is with great sadness that we announce that Marie succumbed to her lengthy battle with cancer. Marie passed peacefully, surrounded by loved ones.
Predeceased by her daughter Stella, Marie is survived by her long term partner Chuck Ryan, son Mel, daughters Becky, Linda and Freda (Bill), adored grandsons Levi and Zach, sister Clara, nieces and nephews and many friends. Marie was born in Rock Bay, grew up in Shoal Bay, and lived her whole life on the BC coast. Marie loved life-she loved to laugh and create fun and good times for others. She was a big hearted, larger than life character. A no-nonsense plain talking woman, Marie was down to earth; accepting and loving to all. She welcomed everyone into her home and was "Mom", "Grandma", "Aunty" to many who were not necessarily biologically related. Marie's special gift and great passion was cooking and feeding people. The more the merrier. She cooked professionally in restaurants and logging camps and never tired of providing delicious meals for large groups of people at anytime. For holidays, she made sure that there was always a place at the table for anyone with nowhere else to go. Marie was a loving partner, devoted and loyal friend, and an exceptional mother and grandmother. She was greatly loved and will be missed more than words can say.
A celebration of Marie's life will be held at a tea on Saturday, October 26, 2013 at Yuculta Lodge in Campbell River from 1-4pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Marie's name to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Canadian Diabetes Assciation. We would like to give special thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff of Campbell River Hospital who provided such kind and loving care.
