Lieselotte (Lilo) Jochimski

October 14, 1923–May 25, 2011

Sadly, Lilo passed away following a short illness at Campbell River and Regional District Hospital at the age of 87. Lilo was pre-deceased by her husband Ed in 2008 and will be greatly missed by her siblings Else and Hans in Germany, her children Gerd (Barb), Walter (Karen), Willy (Andrea), Claudia (Robert), Renate (Werner), Chris (Christine), ten grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Lilo also leaves many friends including members of the Bethany Lutheran Church congregation and Ironwood Place residents and staff where she lived for the past 4 years.

Lilo was born in Barenstein, Germany and settled in the Black Forest region after marrying Ed. Although they had a nice house and a good life, in the mid 1950s Ed was keen to immigrate to Canada to experience greater freedoms and the dream of better opportunities for his family. Ed journeyed to Canada to find work and a place to live. Lilo bravely followed with their 3 sons and they began their new life in Yellowknife, NWT. From Yellowknife the family moved to Ontario and over the years the family grew to include two daughters and one more son. In 1970 the family moved to Campbell River where they would settle for good.

Lilo worked hard to raise their six children teaching herself English along the way and adapting to the Canadian lifestyle including the at times harsh climate. An accomplished cook, baker and gardener Lilo had a great appreciation for nature and could often be found walking the trails in parks around Campbell River rain or shine. The main focus of Lilo’s life was her family and she was at her happiest when the house was full with her kids and their families enjoying a good meal and a laugh. We will miss you Mom.

A private family memorial will be held.

Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the Campbell River Hospital Foundation.
