Surrounded by family, at home in Gold River with the sound of the river and his trusty pup close by, Larry died in the early hours of Monday March 21, 2022. He was born in Vancouver, BC and was the youngest of four, leaving behind his brother Richard and sisters Lorraine and Sandy. Larry grew up and went to school, elementary through UBC Master of Forestry in Operations Research, in Vancouver.
Larry moved to Gold River, BC in 1975 after completing his Bachelor of Forestry and has been the constant pillar while the company name on his office at Logging Division changed over the years. With his wife Ann, they made a home in Gold River with their daughters, Erika (Doug, Ainsley and Aisha) and Sarah (Dave, John and Thomas) above the Gold River. He loved his time in the outdoors; salmon/halibut fishing in Nootka Sound, steelhead fishing on the beautiful rivers around town, and trout fishing at BC Interior lakes with family.
He drove forestry roads to check on cut blocks and go firewood hunting with his black labrador. Larry went bird hunting every September with his brother and nephews in the Cariboo region, where his family traditionally went since his childhood. Over the years, Larry enjoyed running the G.R.O.V.E.L. hockey pool and major golf pools, curling and coaching juniors, playing softball, and golfing.
A celebration of life will be planned for early August 2022 in Gold River, BC. If you would like to make a donation on behalf of Larry Henkelman, please consider Royal Jubilee Hospital Cardiac Care in Victoria, BC where he received considerable care the past two years or a charity of your choice.
