In loving memory ~
Klaus was born in England: the first child of Cheong and Elisabeth Lam. He was named after his grandfather Niklaus on his mother's side.
Klaus enjoyed the outdoors as a child and could always be found exploring, especially once the family moved to Port Moody, B.C. where the family home was surrounded by forest and trails.
In high school he excelled at difficult projects and was always helpful to others. Klaus's aptitude for electronics led
him initially towards avionics. After graduating from BCIT he worked for CBC and RAE but spent the majority of his career with CT&S, a division of Telus.
He was also interested in physics and chemical reactions and would put on displays of homemade rockets and the like for us when we were growing up. We watched from inside the house with excitement and a certain level of apprehension. Some experiments went better than others.
He was always happy to start a bonfire. One of my favourite recent memories was when we missed the ferry from Quadra Island back to Campbell River so we made a beach fire and put the oysters we had found while beachcombing on rocks and BBQ'd them as a snack.
Klaus was a gentle soul who loved dogs and was always happy to go on dog walks with friends.
He also had a great love of hiking and backpacking. Anyone who has gone backpacking with him likely came back with a story. There was a memorable hike to Black Tusk where we watched pikas and other rodents ransack backpacks hung in the packhouse and we ended that trip hiking out in the dark. Klaus had an excellent sense of direction and was quite adventurous when it came to snow camping and back country skiing.
Like a true Lam he enjoyed good food and one of his favourite meals was Dungeness crab or King crab. There is a wonderful photo of him sitting in front of a whole spicy crab. Because the crab was so big we only had one other dish.
Klaus will be greatly missed by everyone and will be remembered for his quiet, kind, and calm demeanour. Klaus is survived by his sisters Edith, Susannah (Shawn), his niece Brenna and numerous cousins.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date yet to be determined. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to BC Children's Hospital Foundation.
