Kathleen (Kay) Hocking, 91, of Campbell River, BC, passed away on August 22, 2019 peacefully at The Views at St. Joseph's care home in Comox, B.C.
Kay was born on November 30, 1927 to Robert and Emma Brown of Timmins, Ontario. After growing up with her four siblings in Timmins, Kay graduated early at the age of 17 from Timmins High School in 1945. She then went on to complete her Registered Nursing Certificate from St. Mary's School of Nursing in 1948.
In 1950, she met William (Bill) Hocking, and they wed on September 20, 1952. While living in Val-d'Or, Quebec, Kay gave birth to three children: Brent, Cheryl, and Glenn.
After Bill's retirement in 1992, they moved from Fraser Lake, BC to Campbell River. They entered retirement by becoming active participants in the Campbell River Baptist Church. They also travelled to places like England, Scotland, Wales, China, Hong Kong, Australia, Hawaii, and Ecuador. During this time, they treasured the sense of connection and community they experienced within their extensive circle of friends. Kay and Bill were married for over 56 years before Bill's death in 2009.
Kathleen will be missed by her three children- Brent, Cheryl, and Glenn (Valerie) as well as five grandchildren (Shayla, Sarah, Emilie, Nicole, and Jonathan).
In lieu of flowers, donations in honour of Kay may be made to Gideons International in Canada. A Memorial Service for Kay will be on Friday, August 30, 2019 at 2:00 pm at the Campbell River Baptist Church.
