Katalin Tilly nee Enyedi, also known as Kati and Kathy to her friends, passed away Sunday, May 26th, 2019 at the age of 68 after a lengthy battle with diabetes.
Kati is predeceased by her husband Bela Tilly (November 18, 2002) and is survived by her sister Eva, niece Kati, and sister-in-law Zsuzsanna who reside in Hungary. Kati was born in Veszto, Hungary and immigrated to Canada in 1970 after marrying her husband Bela. (Bela immigrated to Canada in 1957 after leaving Hungary during the 1956 Hungarian Revolution like many fellow Hungarians.). They lived and worked in many mining communities throughout Canada: Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Thompson, Manitoba, Kimberley, British Columbia, and finally settled in Campbell River in 1975. Bela worked at Myra Falls Mine until he retired in the late 1990's while Kati worked in the Discovery Inn Pub for many years until moving on to work at the Quinsam Beer & Wine Store, briefly at Dollarama, as well as volunteering in the Campbell River Hospital Gift Shop.
Kati and Bela never had children of their own, but they will forever be remembered as friendly, social friends. To the Meszaros family they were our Canadian family since all of our family is in Hungary. We spent many happy hours at each other's homes, during ventures to local lakes, getting firewood, touring Vancouver Island with Hungarian family who would visit, during Christmas festivities, and later during weddings and other gatherings. It is with great sadness that we officially say goodbye to our dear friends ..... until we meet again.
