Karen Meier Jenkins

December 30, 1960 - June 15, 2019
It is with great sadness, we announce that Karen lost her battle with Cancer on June 15th, 2019.
She was the beloved youngest child of Fred and Rosalie Meier born on December 30th, 1960. Karen was predeceased by her father, her brother Kenneth and her grandparents. She is survived by her husband Peter, daughter Lauren, mother Rosalie, brother Doug (Sandra) and sister Suzan (Roland). She is also survived by her niece Erin (Mitch) and nephews Jeff (Trish) and Drew (Cassandra). She is mourned by her step children Dean (Carol), Samantha (Terry) and Kimberly (Bruce) and all their children.
Karen was at the centre of a close knit family and had many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was adored by her great grand niece Alexis and grand nephew Nathan.
She was born and raised in Campbell River and graduated from Carihi. Her post secondary education was at BCIT. She taught at Technical School in New Westminster and worked in Hotel Administration in Victoria. Karen moved to Dawson in 1997. She and Peter were married in 1998 and Lauren was born in 2000. Karen managed their family business, the Eldorado Hotel.
Karen was baptized and confirmed at the little Anglican Church on the highway in Campbell River.
When she was diagnosed with her illness, she fought the good fight and had surgery, chemotherapy and radiation. She seemed to be doing well and we all thought she would beat this illness. When it came back, Suzan went to Dawson and cared for her with the assistance of Lauren and Karen's many friends, especially Dina Grenon. With their help, Karen was able to stay at home until her passing. Doug made 2 trips to Dawson to support his sisters.
There will be a Memorial Service for Karen at St. Peter's Anglican Church, 228 Dogwood Street on Saturday, August 10th at 1 pm, the Reverend Lincoln McKeon officiating. A reception to follow in St. Peter's Hall.
