In Loving Memory ~
Her presence is deeply missed as the world lost a beloved Mom, Wife, Sister, Auntie and Nana, way too soon, on May 31st 2022. Karen's brief but fierce battle with cancer never stopped her from having the biggest smile, most infectious laugh and giving out the biggest and best hugs. Karen passed peacefully surrounded by her devoted and loving husband of 31 years, Stan, along with her children, grandchildren, brothers and sisters.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers. She was immensely proud of her adoring family, extended family and her 'bubble' of best friends, and took every opportunity to tell each and every one of them she loves them "more".
Karen was born in New Westminster on September 26th 1955. Moving to the Island with her parents and brothers, before school age, to Franklin River, Nanaimo and eventually settling in Campbell River where she attended Cedar Elementary, Elm, and graduated in the Class of 1974 from Carihi Secondary School.
Karen was an established entrepreneur, working alongside the love of her life, Stan, in construction, renovating, contracting, and millwork. Karen was never afraid of work and very multi-talented with her side hustles in bookkeeping, insurance, seamstress and tailoring -- a multifaceted maverick and Jill of all trades for a number of local businesses through years.
Karen and Stan enjoyed travel with family and friends, and retirement in 2016 brought on more adventure with many more destinations around the globe, spending time in Alberta with close friends and family, and most enjoyable, camping trips all Summer long on the Island.
Karen loved a good practical joke and had a heart of gold. Adored by many - she was one-of-a-kind, known for her friendliness, generosity and made everyone feel as though they were her family. She represents the good we all need every day in our lives. To know her, is to know true genuine beauty and pure love.
The family would like to send a special thank you to the Doctors and Nurses at the BC Cancer Clinic in Victoria, and the Palliative Care Team and all the attentive staff at the North Island Hospital, Campbell River & District.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the BC Cancer Society.
A celebration of life will be held in her honor at the Maritime Heritage Centre, located in Campbell River on Saturday, September 17th at 1:00 pm.
