November 5, 1943 – September 9, 2021
Joyce, a long-time Campbell River resident, passed away peacefully at the Discovery Harbour Care Home on Thursday, September 9th, 2021. She was surrounded by her loving family. Joyce was born on November 5th, 1943 in Wetaskiwin, Alberta. Her family moved back to Campbell River shortly after her birth.
Joyce worked at various jobs over the years starting at Sweet Sixteen as a Sales Clerk. After raising her family, she began working at Serendipity Lingerie. Her next career was at CIBC as a bank teller and working in the safe.
After retiring from the bank, Joyce worked at Shoppers Drug Mart. She was remembered at all her jobs for her welcoming personality, and smile that greeted all her customers.
Joyce was predeceased by her loving husband David Hemming Ogren. Her love for Dave never waivered, and his picture remained next to her bed until her passing. She was a loving mother to Kevin Ogren (Shari) and Vicki Ogren.
She is also survived by her brother Alec Wood and her nephew Ken Wood (Anita) and niece Kelly Wood (Bin Lim).
Joyce will be long remembered for her incredible and delicious cakes she made with Gwen Langill. She also worked hard volunteering for the Campbell River Figure Skating Club in accounting and sewing many costumes for ice carnivals and competitions.
She was very involved in the Independent Order of Foresters (IOF), including serving in many executive capacities. She also loved to curl. She was extremely dedicated to the Trinity Presbyterian Church as their treasurer and long-term congregation member.
There will be a Celebration of Life via ZOOM on Saturday, September 25th at 1 pm. A Link will be posted on the Trinity Presbyterian Church of Campbell River website.
The family would like to send a huge thank you to all the wonderful nurses, care workers, as well as recreation, visitation, and support staff at the Discovery Harbour Care Home. You all went above and beyond the call of duty caring for the needs of our mother and family.
For those wishing to honour Joyce’s memory, a donation may be made to the Trinity Presbyterian Church or the Recreation Department of the Discovery Harbour Care Home, both located in Campbell River.
