MANLANGIT,

Jose Abad

March 19, 1943 - June 15, 2005

Passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones at Campbell River General Hospital on Wednesday, June 15, 2005 at the age of 62 years. He was predeceased by his wife Zenaida; his parents Enrique and Rosario Manlangit and his siblings Nicholas, Procpio, Preciosa, Salvacion and Antonia. Jose is survived and will be sadly missed by his daughter Trisha (Kristoffer) of Calgary, Alberta; his son Michael (Anna) of London, England; his brothers Ruben and Delphin of The Philippines and his sister Delia of Vancouver, B.C. Jose was born on March 19, 1943 in Gingoog City, The Philippines. He graduated as a mechanical engineer from the Mapua Institute of Technology in Manila and was a proud alumnus. Engineering was his passion and he instilled in his family the high value of education. When he brought an injured friend to the hospital one day, Jose met a nurse and fell in love with her. He followed his love, Zeny, to North America and they began their married lives together on February 23, 1974 in Kitimat, B.C. Jose worked in Kitimat, and in Prince Rupert until he and Zeny found Campbell River as the place to raise their two children. Here, Jose worked as a millwright and retired as a maintenance planner at Elk Falls Mill, the workplace that introduced him to great co-workers and where he developed many cherished friendships. Jose will be greatly missed by all his family and friends. He was a devoted father, a skilled gardener, an avid fisherman, an Elvis Presley fan and a treasured friend. Jose adored his wife Zeny who passed away Christmas Day, 2002. They are now together again, with God in heaven and that knowledge helps us cope with this loss. A special thanks to Dr. Carswell, the nurses on 2nd North and 3rd North, Home Care Nurse Monica and the Home Support Workers Shannon, Jen, Mary Ellen and Lisa. The children of Jose would like to make special mention of Jose’s "buddy" of the last two and a half years, Maricar. We greatly appreciate the role she has played in our family, as both a caregiver and a close companion for our father. Prayers were offered at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church on Friday, June 17, 2005 at 7:00 p.m. and the Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Saturday, June 18, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. by Father William MacDonald, O.M.I. ISLAND FUNERAL SERVICES/ELK FALLS CREMATORIUM, 909 ISLAND HIGHWAY, CAMPBELL RIVER entrusted with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jose’s memory may be made to The Parkinson Society of B.C., 600-890 West Pender Street, Vancouver, B.C. V6C 1J9.
