John Martin Fossum

April 9, 1943 – April 30, 2010

John passed away on April 30, 2010 after a brief hard fought battle with cancer. John was born in Comox and grew up in Camp 5 with parents Martin and Janet and sister Margaret.

The family moved to Menzies Bay in 1955 then Campbell River in 1957. John met Willa Mae in High School and they were married in 1962. The couple had two children, Kim and Bob and lived in various parts of Campbell River.

John worked in logging, at the Pulp Mill, as a commercial Fisherman and a carpenter. Early on John’s family was often on the move as he would build and sell houses as a side job.

John’s greatest quality was his ability to make others laugh. He found humour in seemingly mundane circumstances and often made himself the butt of his own jokes. He loved music and was naturally talented on the guitar, piano and accordion.

John was a longtime Legion member and had done volunteer work building kiosks for the community.

John was pre-deceased by parents Martin and Janet Fossum. He is survived by his wife Willa Mae, daughter Kim Bigelow and son Bob Fossum, grandchildren Robbie, Lauren, Jenna and Brooke.
