John (Jack) Lionel FINNERTY

January 16, 2007

FINNERTY,

John (Jack) Lionel born April 2nd, 1920 in Strongfield, Sask. passed away peacefully with his family at his side January 16th, 2007 in Campbell River, BC. He was predeceased by three brothers: David, Larry and Arthur Finnerty and sister Mary Berg. Jack is survived by Dorothy (Dot) his wife and companion of 67 years, three children: Pat (Lynn), Dale (Judy) and Brenda (Peter) and brother Edwin Finnerty. He leaves behind six grandchildren: Brent (Kim), Jolean (David), Darrin, Trish, Ryan, Kristin and great grandchildren Madison and Brenden. In 1947 after serving in the Air Force from 1943 to 1946 Jack came to Victoria, BC. In 1957 Jack and his family moved to Saratoga Beach and started Finnerty’s campsite. Jack was a talented carpenter and builder and was involved in many major projects in the North Island. Jack was well known around Campbell River and always greeted everyone with a joke or funny story. Jack loved and cared for those around him right to the end and always spoke lovingly and with pride about the lives of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He played daily cribbage games with his wife Dot and on December 8th, 2006 won his last game; together they recorded 25,405 games of crib over the span of 22 years. We, his family, are thankful he is at peace and will remember his humour and strength. His silly antics will be missed. Our deep and sincere thanks to the homecare team, RNs, Carlene, Sue and most importantly Doctor Jim. We invite friends and family to a celebration of his life on Sunday January 28th from noon till 3 at 420 Elizabeth Rd. Campbell River, BC. In Lieu of flowers donations can be made in Jack’s name to the Canadian Cancer Society.
