John (Jack) Albert

Jack passed away peacefully at Cowichan District Hospital at the age of 88. Predeceased by his father and mother, John and Nellie Uzzell; brothers Roy Uzzell (Bev), and George Uzzell; and son John Edward Uzzell.  Survived by Ivy, his loving wife of 63 years; brothers: Charles Uzzell (Muriel), and David Robson (Betty); sons: George Uzzell (Susan), Robert Uzzell (Erin), Kenneth Uzzell (Susan), and Ian Uzzell (Mavis); daughter-in-law Bonnie Uzzell; granddaughters: Tami Uzzell-Paulos (Gus), Crystal Uzzell-Modras (Mike), Brannon Uzzell, Kelly Uzzell (Roger), Marla Uzzell, Amie Uzzel-Achurch (Adrian), Megan Uzzell (Kelly), Terra Uzzell (Tommy), and Amanda Uzzell (Jeff); much loved great-grandchildren: Kylie, Jana, Alexandria, Spencer, Jace, Maddox, and Hayden. Jack was born in Wayburn, Saskatchewan. The family moved to the Cowichan Valley in 1935. Jack joined the British Royal Airforce in October of 1938 at the age of 18. He was one of the many "Biggs Boys" who were helped to join the RAF by Captain Henry Seymour-Biggs, a retired Royal Navy Officer. While in the Service Jack did a fair amount of traveling including South Africa, and Egypt. He met his wife Ivy in Ramsey, Isle of Man in May 1940. They were married on May 6, 1945.  After returning from 7 years of Service, Jack worked in logging for a short period, but spent most of his working life at Bamberton Cement Company, retiring in 1978. Jack and Ivy lived in their Cobble Hill home for over 50 years, raising their five sons. They both enjoyed extensive traveling, and their Church and faith were a big part of their lives. Jack was also a long time member of the Royal Canadian Legion. Service to be held at St. John's Anglican Church in Cobble Hill on Thursday, September 18, 2008 at 1:00 P.M., with a tea to follow at the Church Hall. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation to the charity of your choice.
