John Arnold (Jack) PERKINS

April 23, 2006

Perkins,

John Arnold (Jack)

On April 23rd 2006, Jack passed away suddenly at the age of 69. He was predeceased by his father Thomas, mother Marjorie (nee Brown) and his nephew Richard. He is survived by his loving wife Valdina (nee Rafnkjelsson), children Thomas (Tara), Robert, Sharel (David Siarkiewicz), grandchildren Alysha, Kaitlyn, Chelsea, Justin, Samuel, and Alexander, siblings James (Lillian), Patricia (Al Hodgkinson) and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jack was born and raised in Campbell River where his first loves were hunting and fishing which he was able to develop into a job as a fishing guide for Painters Lodge. He was a grandson of a pioneer family, John and Effie Perkins, who immigrated to Campbell River in the early 1900’s. He later served most of his apprenticeship as a plumber with Hughes Brothers of Campbell River, but moved to industrial construction where he completed his certification as plumber pipefitter.

After retiring he kept himself busy as a landlord, handyman, remodeling several cabins, his home as well as sharing his expertise and time helping with his children’s homes. Jack also was able to travel across Western Canada, camping and visiting family. While on these travels he gathered information for his favourite hobby, Genealogy.

In his life he was everything from a grunt to site supervisor. He was a devoted husband and father with a tremendous sense of humour, notorious for quick wit and pranks. Jack taught us by example about hard work, commitment and selflessness. He will be enormously missed by his large extended family.

The family would like to thank Shaunna for her compassion to Jack in his final moments.

A Memorial will be held on Saturday, June 24th at the Mara Community Church at 11am. An informal gathering will follow at the Mara Community hall.
