Joan Iris Zipp (nee Rumsby) was taken away from us Aug. 30, 2008 after a short battle with cancer.
Joan leaves behind her loving children and grandchildren Dan (Terry and sons Jeff & Mike), Kathy (Wolfgang), Karl (Carla), Pat (son Andy), Bill (Tracey and daughters Danielle & Debbie), Kristi Pellegrin (Reno and children Marissa & Frankie), and Ed (Barbie).
She is also survived by her brothers Larry (Betty) Rumsby and Bill (Kathryn) Rumsby of Sooke, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
Joan was born May 24, 1929 in Sooke, and was one of the first graduates of Milnes Landing School. She graduated from St. Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing in Victoria and worked at King County Hospital in Seattle before moving back to Sooke to raise her children.
Joan always lived life to the fullest. She enjoyed camping with her children, sewing, baking and helping out Kathy at the Farmers’ Market in Nanaimo and Qualicum Beach, and son Ed’s sister-in-law Marisa Oakes with the Blue Carrot in Victoria.
A service will be held Saturday, 11 a.m. Sept. 6, at St. Rose of Lima Church, Sooke. Refreshments and a light snack to follow in the church hall downstairs.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to your local hospice society.
