April 18, 2020
Our dear Jivana passed away peacefully at the age of 76 of ovarian cancer on Saturday, April 18, 2020, at the Campbell River Hospital.
She accepted her cancer diagnosis with grace and after just a few short months she surrendered, with love, to her Creator's will. She is preceded in death by her brother and parents Joan Law and Yvon Desloges. Jivana is survived by her husband Nity Tonru, her step-daughters Roxanne Murphy and Laura Murphy, her grandsons Michael Murphy, Mathew Johnston and Thomas Johnson, and her former son-in-law, Denny Johnston. Also mourning her are her many friends (too many to name) that she met while volunteering at the Campbell River Hospice Society, singing with the Threshold Singers, and the Sing for Pure Joy group which included her loving sisters of Beta Sigma Phi and Theta Eta Chapter. Jivana was known for her passion for animals, particularly her love for cats; she left behind her beloved cat Sophie whom she adored.
Born in Smithers, BC on November 15th, 1943, Jivana moved to Campbell River in the early 90's where she enjoyed a long and successful career with ICBC, retiring only a few years ago. She was strong-willed and independent, while being a tender, generous and loving wife, step-mother, grandmother, and a friend to many.
Jivana is a spiritual soul who enjoyed sharing her sparkle with us all! A special thank you to Dr. Liezl Sullivan, all the hospital staff on 3B, and to the palliative care home team. Your gentle kindness and care will always be remembered and appreciated.
A Celebration of Life to honour this beautiful soul will be hosted at a later date.
