martin,

Jean (Watson)

1907-2006

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Jean Birnie (Watson) Martin on January 4, 2006. Jean passed away peacefully at Qualicum Manor.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, sons Hugh (Sharon) Neil, grandchildren Randy (Joanna) Lisa (Charles) Cathy (Steve) Dannean and Heather. Great grandchildren Christopher, Shea, Quinlan and Ethan. Loved by her extended family, the Martins and many friends.

Jean was born in Motherwell, Scotland on March 18, 1907 to James and Janet Horne. She came to Canada in 1910.

In 1930 she came to Campbell River, where she met Wilbur Watson, they were married in 1934. Married life began on a float house. In 1938 they settled in Gowlland Harbour.

Wilbur died in 1958. Jean left Quadra Island in 1960 and became head matron of the Glacier View Lodge in Courtenay where she worked for 13 years. Upon retirement, she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and following her adventurous spirit she travelled.

In 1983 Jean married Edwin Martin. Sadly, Edwin passed away very suddenly and Jean was once again a widow. Jean moved back to Campbell River in 1996 to be close to friends and family, where she enjoyed the rest of her days with many happy memories.

Jean would grace you with a wink, her wisdom, an old time story, or a demonstration of her faith, she will be remembered as a caring and loving mother, grandmother and friend.

There will be a celebration of her life on Saturday January 14th at 1:00pm at Altrusa House, 142 Larwood Road, Campbell River, BC.
