Jean Louise McGourlick

April 2, 1922 - September 17, 2017

Jean was born on the family farm near Gull Lake, SK on April 2, 1922. Following grade school in Gull Lake, Jean graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a B.Ed. and B.A. and then worked as a teacher or principal in a number of rural Saskatchewan communities.

A talented piano player from an early age, Jean's love of music was a source of joy and entertainment for herself and others throughout her life.

Jean married her husband Don in December 1943. The family grew with the birth of Shari in 1946 and Kerry in 1954.

Following Don's return to the RCAF in 1951, the growing family was transferred numerous times over the following years living in St. Jean PQ, Marville France, and Richmond BC. During this period Jean was the hub of family life and balanced raising a family with teaching.

In subsequent years Jean and Don moved to Prince George, Union Bay and finally Campbell River.

Jean is lovingly remembered by her surviving family members, son Kerry (Sylvia), sister Mary, grandchildren Naryn (Dave), Jordan (Amanda), Chris (Shauna) and Kim, as well as many nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren.

She was a person of quiet faith, moral conviction, and independent spirit.

In everything, she put the needs of her family and others ahead of her own.

She will be sadly missed but will live on in the memories of all who knew her.

Jean passed away peacefully at Evergreen Seniors Home in Campbell River on September 17, 2017 at the age of 95.

There will be no funeral service at her request.
