A generous businessman and father, passed away peacefully due to complications from a heart attack, surrounded by his loving family and friend Harry Holland in Victoria, B.C. He was born in Patna, Scotland and immigrated to Toronto in 1968 where he lived for 5 years before moving to Courtenay in 1973. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Marion, his sister Anne McCulloch and her husband Jock and brother-in-law Bobby Thorburn all of Scotland. Jimmy is survived by daughter Charmaine (Shawn) Pelling of Comox, son Ryan (Carey) of Nanaimo, mother of his children Mary Ann (Ken) Tait of Courtenay, his sisters in Scotland; Margaret (Davie) Millar, Betty Thorburn and May (Bill) Gow, his dear friend Doreen Rutherford of Comox as well as many nieces and nephews in Scotland. Jimmy started his career as a plumber, but was better known for his multiple developments in the Comox Valley and as owner of Island Truss for over 25 years. Jimmy was a founding member of the Rotary Club of Strathcona Sunrise, a member of the Comox Valley Pipe Band and various other organizations. In his leisure time he was an avid fisherman, enjoyed golf and enjoyed socializing with his friends. Jimmy will be remembered as a kind and generous man with a quick Scottish wit. Although not widely known, Jimmy regularly supported The Comox Valley Child Development Centre. If friends so wish, donations made in Jimmy’s memory to the Comox Valley Child Development Centre or the Comox Valley Community Foundation would be appreciated. A celebration of Jimmy’s Life will be held at the Crown Isle Resort ballroom, 399 Clubhouse Drive, Courtenay on Friday, September 18th, 2009 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
