June 29, 1934 - December 13, 2021
Jacquie passed away peacefully in the early hours of Dec 13th, 2021. She is remembered and cherished by her husband Dr. Robert (Bob) Gordon; her children Heather (Michael), Ted (Shelly) and Christina; her Grandchildren Ian (Jaamie), Paul (Angel), Tyson, Travis (Alli), Kevin and Jayme (Jolaine); her Great Grandchildren McKinley, Faye, Claire & Nora; and her sisters Winanne & Janette (Doug) and sister-in-law Marie; and countless cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
The family would like to thank the First Responders, Dr. Seldon, Dr. Walker and the Nurses & Staff of the Campbell River hospital for their care and guidance.
Harry and Winnie Glover raised three daughters in Union Bay, BC - Winanne (Naylor) and the twins Janette (Geidt) and Jacqueline. As teens, the twins taught swimming off the Government wharf and attended Courtenay High School. They met their future husbands at Courtenay High School and their daughters once found a diary describing a 'date night' when Doc & Doug drove down to 'the Bay' to see them.
Jacquie went to Normal School for Teaching and taught before and after her marriage to Robert up until the arrival of their first daughter, Heather. The family moved to San Francisco for a year for Bob's internship with Kaiser Permanente and their son, Ted, was born there. Upon their return to Canada they lived in Ladysmith for a few years then settled in Campbell River where Christina was born.
A skilled seamstress and costume designer, Jacquie made countless costumes for local dance companies and community theatres. In between sewing and driving her children to and from hockey and dance, she loved to host dinner parties for family and friends. In the 80's she was Director of the BC Festival of the Arts and spearheaded the banner program.
In the 90's, Jacquie was instrumental in converting the old Van Isle Cinema into a working live stage aptly named the Tidemark Theatre. She was the first manager and later started up Shoreline Musical Theatre Society which presented many productions at the Tidemark. Also, in the 90's, she directed the opening ceremonies and helped host the BC Winter Games. She was awarded the Chamber of Commerce - Citizen of the Year award in 1992 and the Community Builder award from the City of Campbell River in 2008. She and Bob both received the Paul Harris Fellow medallion from the Rotary and in 2012, she received a medal from the Queen for the Diamond Jubilee celebration. She embodied the saying, "If you want something done, ask a busy person."
She loved going up to the family cabin and was often the first one in the water regardless of the temperature. She will be remembered for her smile, her style, her organizational skills, her amazing cooking, her caring heart, her beautiful garden and her connection to young people.
In lieu of Flowers, the family asks that you donate to the Tidemark Theatre 'in Memory of Jacquie Gordon'.
Due to ongoing Covid protocols, the family plan a Celebration of Life later in the Spring of 2022. In the meantime, they urge you to remember Jacquie by going to a show, visiting a gallery/museum, buying some local art, planting a garden in the Spring or having a swim in the Summer.
