Jack (John) McGowan

After a long life filled with love, laughter and happiness, Jack passed away peacefully in his sleep August 4, 2008 to be with his beloved wife Marie, whom he lost in 2006.

Born April 4, 1915 in Kindersley, Saskatchewan, Jack was the third born child of six. Among many of Jack's accomplishments, he was a veteran of WWII, Provincial Police Officer and a Jack of all trades and Master of Most.

In 1952 Jack married the love of his life Marie, and together they raised five children. After moving from Vancouver to Richmond and then to Quadra Island, where he became the island electrician and an active member in the community, finally retiring in Campbell River. Jack and Marie had many travels including wintering in Arizona and in Mexico as well as a memorable trip across Canada.

Jack will be remembered for his quick wit, great sense of humour, his great "one liners", his love of tea at 3 ("warm the cup"), rock hounding, tennis, bike riding, Scotch mints and of course his two-finger glass of Scotch.

Jack will be greatly missed by all of his favourite children: Craig (Vicki); Karen (Scott); Russell (Penny); Donna (Jerry) and Paul, his grandchildren: Sarah; Jenna; Lindsay; Katie; Paige; Lauren; Taylor; Julia; Eric (Mel); Kris; Jana; Nicholas; Morgan, and his great grandchildren Jaida and Ayzia.

Jack spent his last few years at Evergreen Senior's Home where he made many friends. A special thank you to "The Family: at Evergreen for taking such great care of Dad and showing him so much love during his time there. They hold a special place in our hearts.
