Jack passed away peacefully on April 28, 2003. He was born in Tampere, Finland in 1926 and served his country by enlisting in the Finnish Army during the hostilities of 1939 - 1945 prior to coming to Canada in 1951. Jack was employed by the City of Victoria for 22 years, and together with his wife Lisa, raised his family there. In 1979 Jack and Lisa moved to Campbell River where he worked for School District 72 until his retirement.

Jack was an ardent naturalist and fisherman, a jazz enthusiast, a tireless dancer, a friend to all animals and a devoted family man. He will be forever loved by his wife of 58 years, Sirkka Liisa, son Matti(Jean), son Markku (Lynne) and daughter Anita (Adolf). He delighted in his role as “Pa-Pa” and his memory will be cherished by grandchildren Ann & Paul and Ryan & Kaarina. Jack will be missed as well by numerous nieces and nephews and relatives in British Columbia and in Finland.

The family would like to thank the volunteers and staff of Sunshine Lodge for the care they gave Jack in his final years.
