Ingrid Margrethe Cowie

(née Andersen)

March 22, 1914 - April 24, 2010

Ingrid passed away peacefully in Powell River General Hospital on April 24, 2010. She was predeceased by Ernie, her husband of 50 years in 1987 and by her beloved son Gordon in 1996.

Ingrid was the only daughter of Wildwood pioneers Jens and Karen Andersen and the sister of Einar and Paul. She attended old Henderson, Wildwood and Brooks schools in Powell River and then continued her education and training at the Vancouver Normal School and the University of BC. She had a long and illustrious teaching career starting with a one room school in Galley Bay then taught in Wildwood, Lund, Campbell River, Prince Rupert and Ganges on Saltspring Island. She rose to the position of Primary Supervisor before retiring back to Powell River in 1974. Ingrid was an amazingly talented woman and her retirement years were full. She was an expert seamstress, an accomplished pianist and a gifted artist and crafter. She was in her element in the garden among her flowers and was an environmentalist long before it was the popular thing to be. When it came to learning she loved a challenge and a few years ago she took up the computer. It was an ongoing battle and in the end I think the computer won! Like many of her generation, Ingrid was a strong and capable woman and always gave credit to her hard working parents for instilling in her the values that carried her

through life. Her accomplishments were many, her regrets few; She valued her friendships and treasured her family. Ingrid will be missed and remembered with love and gratitude by her daughter Anna (Don) Lyon. She will also be dearly remembered by her grandchildren Janice Cowie (Dan), David Cowie, Katie Lyon (Graham Stevens) and Jamie Lyon (Kate) and her great-grandchildren Jenni

Cowie (Billy), Amanda Cowie, Calvin and Jarrod Cowie, Sera, Jayne and Anna Stevens and great-great-grandsons Drew and brand new baby Oliver Ives.

A long and happy life well lived.
