Arnie passed away in early morning of May 3, 2016, at home, surrounded by family. Hugh was born in Saanich, BC in 1924, and in 1943, he enlisted in the Merchant Navy.

He is predeceased by his wife, best friend, and business partner of 66 years, Alice. He is also predeceased by his daughter, Vicki Gleadle.

Arnie is survived by his children Randy & Pat Leigh, Cathy Leigh, and Kerry & Barry Watchorn. He is also survived by his grandchildren Taylor & Sarah Leigh, Kyle Leigh, Sonni Pacheco, Cara & Ryan Kelly, Jonathan & Andrea Gleadle, Jessica Sawkins as well as nine great grandchildren. Arnie was not only a father and a grandfather to his family, he was a business partner, mentor, and best friend.

Arnie and Alice made Campbell River their home for over 60 years, and together, they were very successful business people. Arnie and Alice were gutsy entrepreneurs who owned many local businesses - from tugboats to restaurants to car and truck rentals. They were very thankful for the support of the community over the years. As a show of appreciation, they in turn supported, and continue to support the Campbell River Hospital Foundation, Campbell River Community Foundation, and Campbell River Salmon Foundation, along with MARS.

The Leigh Family would like to thank Lori, Michelle, and Peter of Nurses Next Door for their two years of live-in care and commitment to Arnie’s well-being, which allowed him to live comfortably at home during his final years and days. A special thank you to Dr. Debruin & Dr. Kaikov for their support, as well.

There will be a Celebration of Life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Campbell River Hospital Foundation, Campbell River Community Foundation, or the Campbell River Salmon Foundation.
