Feb 10, 1938 - Nov. 17, 2014

We sang Herb out with Willie Nelson in Nanaimo General Hospital. He was the last of his generation and one of a kind. Predeceased by wife Marlene, sister Ann (Tom), and brothers Petur, Erikur (Audrey) and Arnold. He is survived by his son Jeff, daughter Lorna and grandchildren Ariell, Max and Sawyer.

Herb was born in Manitoba and moved to the coast in 1954. In Powell River he met and married Marlene. Jeff and Lorna were born, and a crazy gypsy journey began; a life of moving, entrepreneurship, friendships, family and country music. He was a cross between John Wayne and Bob Hope - tough, truthful, quick with a joke and legendary. At Herb’s, the door was always open and the fridge full, but you had to be prepared for what might happen when you went in. As Grampa he was generous, a bit crusty, and wise. He was always there except on dialysis days. He was real, he was human and in the end he was very tired. We can honestly say he did it his way.

Special thanks to the nephrology team in Nanaimo, Wheels for Wellness and to friends and neighbours who made his last years very enjoyable. He will be greatly missed and never forgotten. He was a classic. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Wheels for Wellness.
