Born June 29, 1920, passed away peacefully at Campbell River Hospital on Sept. 2, 2003. Predeceased by her son, Grant LeRoy Bartelmey, her sister, Hilda Gadd and her parents Fred and Anna Merchel.

Henri emigrated with her family from Germany to Saskatchewan in 1926. She completed her education and went on to become a wireless operator during W.W.II in Ottawa, Ontario. She moved to British Columbia in 1950 and began her career with Simpson Sears, Ltd. She managed the catalog stores in Abbotsford and Chilliwack. She spent an additional six years as trainer and supervisor with Sears out of Vancouver, before moving to take up managerial post in Campbell River in 1960. Her career with Sears spanned 31 years.

For many years Henri was a member of the United church and sang with the church choir. She was a curling and golfing enthusiast and enjoyed warm, sunny weather. She was also a Soroptimist Club member. Henri loved to travel and especially enjoyed her jaunts to Hawaii and Texas.

She leaves to mourn her, her sisters Wilma (Norman) Bolton, Ruth Davies, numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews, and close friends.

Special thanks to Dr. Philip MacNeill, the hospital E.C.U. nursing staff and especially to her Home Support workers for their years of dedication.

A memorial service will be held at Sutton’s Funeral Home on Sept. 8th at 1:00pm.
