Passed away on Saturday, January 5, 2008 at Yucalta Lodge, Campbell River. He was predeceased by his wife Eileen in 1992. Henk is survived by his daughter Anne Stubbs (Barrie) of Campbell River; grandchildren Tanya Grasley (Chris) and Trevor De Cook and great-grandchildren Brenden Grasley and Ayanna Grasley. He served in the Allied Merchant Marines in WW2. Henk was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion and the Canadian Merchant Service Guild. He owned a pub, the Duke of Wellington Public House in Sussex, England. He was a Master Mariner employed by Sea Span and Rivtow Straits. He did private chartering at Scholles near Horseshoe Bay. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and was a dart champion. Henk is fondly revered as "The Gentleman Captain" by his crew, which he ruled at home too. His family was everything--velvet touch with an iron will. If needed it was provided if at all possible but never to excess. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff on Coastal West at Yucalta Lodge for their compassion and dignity shown to their dad and the family at this time.
