January 7, 1946 - June 30, 2018
Hans was a loving husband, brother, father and friend to many. He was an avid skier and baker from Kilchberg, Switzerland, where the Lindt factory is located which blankets the town with the aroma of chocolate. He travelled to Canada in 1967, arrived by boat in Montreal and began working at the World Expo of that year.

He continued his travels to Whitehorse where he began working at SuperValue. During his time in Whitehorse, he met Carmel from Ireland who was also on a journey travelling the world. They travelled Alaska and the Yukon before settling in Campbell River in 1968 and married on Long Beach in 1970. Hans continued to work for SuperValue for another 11 years before opening Steiner Bakery in 1980. They opened the bakery using a shoe box as a cash register and developed it into a well-known European breads and pastry specialty bakery that is still popular today.

They retired in 1999 and have spent the last 19 years together having fun, skiing, hiking, kayaking, fishing and travelling the world on many adventures.

Hans leaves behind his loving wife Carmel, two sons Marcus and Darren, daughter- in-law Carrie and 2 grandchildren Cedar and Willow. Hans also leaves behind in Switzerland his sister Nelly, brother-in-law Heini, nephew Daniel, cousins Heinz, Herbert and Marliess; and in Ireland his brothers-in-law Maurice and Raymond Silke.

He will be remembered for making sure everyone was having a good time. He will be missed for his compassion and willingness to help others.

A celebration of life will be held at 4067 South Island Highway on July 14 starting at 2 pm. It will be a potluck and there will be pizzas baked in Hans' pizza oven. All family and friends are invited.
