Gordon Arthur Solberg, of Black Creek, BC, died on January 5, 2016 at the age of 56.

Gord was born on February 5, 1959 in Nanaimo, BC. Eldest son of Karl and Bernice Solberg.

After graduating from Carihi Secondary School in 1977, Gord went to work at Elk Falls Mill. He earned Red Seal Certification as a Millwright. He started with Crown Zellerbach and finished when Catalyst closed the doors. He was a dedicated employee of 32 years. The move from Campbell River, BC, to their five acres in Black Creek took place at this time.

In 1980, Gord married Lewann Smith, and in 1987 they were blessed with their greatest joy, the birth of son Reid. An adoring husband, Gord was truly Lewann’s knight in shining armour and a compassionate father to Reid.

Gord was a loyal, devoted and loving son, brother, and friend. A very patient and giving man, always ready to help. Most will remember him as a quiet, gentle giant of a man, a true gentleman.

His last job took him to Port Alice where he lived with his brother Jim. Gord called their place ‘the boys’ club’ and he loved that time they had together.

Gord will be forever loved and missed by his surviving wife, of 35 years, Lewann; son Reid, mother Bernice, brother Karl James (Jim), sisters Karen, and Kristine, and their families. Predeceased by father, Karl Johan Solberg and father-in-law, Lewis (Scotty) Smith.

Wearing his bib overalls, driving his tractor, sitting on a bench at the barn, and watching all God’s creatures were some of the things that gave him great pleasure. Gord was due to begin retirement on January 15, 2016.

A private gathering to be held at a later date.
