Godfrey (Slim)

1905 ~ 2004

Slim passed away suddenly on April 21st. Born in Pfeifer, Russian in 1905 he traveled with his family to Salina, Kansas in 1906, on to Macklin, Saskatchewan in 1911 and shortly after to a homestead in Grosswerder, Sask. He was the second oldest of 8 children & outlived all his siblings. Slim moved to Surrey in the 30’s where he worked as a carpenter and married his wife Betty in 1942. He was a superintendent on many jobs in the Vancouver area, such as the Molson Brewery and some of the Simon Fraser University buildings. He moved to Abbeyfield House in December 2001 where he was well looked after by the House Co-ordinator Mary Lou. He received his life membership in the Royal Canadian Legion in Whalley in 1980 and still loved to drop in to have a beer and a game of pool in the Courtenay Legion right up until the last week of his life.

Slim was predeceased by his wife Betty, son Bill and grandson Jimmy. He is survived by his daughter-in-law Ann, Campbell River; grandsons: Gary (Joanne) of Courtenay and Jack of Campbell River; granddaughters: Wendy (Pete) Savin, Courtenay and Tracey (Ed) Mullen, Campbell River; and 5 great grandchildren.
