Gladys “Toots”

(nee Baird)

March 13, 1930 -

September 8, 2006

Toots passed away on Friday, Sept. 8, 2006 at Glacier View Lodge in Courtenay, BC. We know that she has now been re-united with her best friend and husband, Harley, who died last year; also predeceased by her son, Konrad in 1977 and sister, Donna-Lyn in 1998. Toots is survived and will be forever missed by her daughter, Karin Koons, sisters Dodie Cochrane and Leta (Bert) Hilton, brothers Tom Baird and Jim (Wilma) Baird, grandson Kris McCallum and many relatives and great friends.

Toots grew up in Dauphin, Manitoba and began work in the local telephone office at the age of 16. She married Harley, a pilot in the RCAF, in 1953 and became somewhat of a relocation expert over the next twenty years as Harley’s career kept the family moving from place to place. They retired to Campbell River in 1991, and then later to Courtenay in 2003. Toots loved travelling with Harley, loved gardening and she and Harley were both active in the First Open Heart Society of Campbell River. She was a great Mom and always a pleasure to be around.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Comox Valley Funeral Home and Crematorium, 1101 Ryan Road, Courtenay on Saturday, Sept. 16, at 10 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the First Open Heart Society of Campbell River P.O. Box 175, Campbell River, BC V9W 5A7, and the Glacier View Lodge Society, 2450 Back Rd., Courtenay, BC, V9W 9G8.

Special thank you’s go out to Dr. McNie, the staff of VIHA Community Care and of course the staff of Glacier View
