Gladys Constance Stubbs
April 2, 1921 – April 20, 2009
Connie passed away on April 20th, 2009 at Campbell River General Hospital listening to music and in the arms of her daughter Joanne.
She was predeceased by her husband Denys Michael Stubbs, her parents James and Agnes Guymer, her sister Madge Currie, daughter-in-law Brenda Stubbs and two grandchildren Allan and Kimmie Stubbs. Connie is survived and will be greatly missed by her sons Michael Stubbs (Laura) of Campbell River, B.C. and Bob Stubbs (Ruth) of Campbell River, B.C., her daughters Lynne Aspden (Bill) of Powell River, B.C. and Joanne Otto (David) of Campbell River, B.C., her grandchildren; Staci (Eric) Lemay, Jamie (Rhea) Otto, Chris Rhodes, Dianne Rhodes and Kyle Stubbs, her great grandson Michael Anthony Otto as well as her nephews David, Michael and Phillip Currie in Canada with numerous relatives in England.
Connie served in England during WWII where she worked to support the war effort at night by searching for survivors of bomb raids. During the day she worked as a riveter on airplanes and later as a switchboard operator for the Armed Forces. She also worked as a teletype operator in a top secret facility at King’s College. She was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion and was a member of many bowling and dart teams over the years. Connie was a dedicated wife and mother of four. She worked for a short time for Canada Post in Wabush, Labrador and also for Wabush Mines, Labrador on switchboard and teletype.
In her leisure time Connie enjoyed traveling, Bridge games, music, dancing, darts, bowling, reading and family gatherings. She was a great cook who never wrote down her recipes. Connie had a strong love of family and was a good and supportive friend. She had a keen sense of humour and loved April 1st – she never missed fooling her husband. She found laughter and enjoyment wherever she went. She had a strong sense of justice, loved animals and enjoyed the company of her 2 cats.

The family would like to thank the very caring staff of Sunshine Lodge where she lived for almost 6 years and also the loving staff at New Horizons Community of Care where mom lived for the past year, the staff of Campbell River General Hospital 3 South and Dr. J. Coetzee.
