Mergaert,
Gerald Joseph
(Jerry)
March 22, 1944 -
October 1, 2006
It is with great sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of our son, father, grandfather, brother-in-law, uncle and friend. Jerry was predeceased by his parents Butch and Edna Mergaert and father-in-law Art Wickman. Survived by his loving children, Tanza(Shaun), Chadwick(Lori), grandchildren he was so proud of, Braden, Alexis, Gabrielle, and Grace, his ex-wife and dear friend Corinne and Mother-in-law Doreen as well as many extended family and friends.
Born and raised on Quadra Island, as a young boy Jerry began his lifelong career as a Commercial Fisherman, first with his father cod fishing, then trolling, seining and pioneering prawn fishing, eventually skippering his own boats, the Echo Bay and Seymour Raider with his son Chad. He found solitude in his true passion the ocean, which he shared with his family leaving countless special memories that will be treasured forever.
Jerry was a kind, generous and gentle soul who always found time for everyone. He will be missed always.
God looked around in his
garden,
And He found an empty place.
He then looked down upon this
Earth and saw your tired face.
He saw the road was getting rough
And the hills were hard to climb.
So he ended your battle,
And whispered “Peace be Thine”.
A Golden heart stopped
beating,
Hard working hands laid to rest,
God broke our hearts to prove to us
He only takes the best.
And when we saw you
sleeping,
So peaceful and free from pain,
We could not wish you back
To suffer that again.
It broke our hearts to lose you,
But you didn’t go alone,
For part of us went with you,
The day God called you home.
Dad, at last you are free……xox
