The Queen
of the Parade
April 5, 1901 - May 13, 2003. Alleyn Eaton was born in Selkirk, Manitoba 102 years ago. She had a brother and two sisters. Many historical events became part of her experience. Alleyn was 20 months when the 1st power flight, the Kitty Hawk - December 17, 1903 took place, Alleyn’s brother, Lindsay, at 16 joined World War 1 troops. He was badly wounded, but survived. Alleyn was very aware of the significance of World War II and also the Depression in the 1930s.
Alleyn worked for Birks for 33 years and managed the china and diamond department. Alleyn cared for her ailing parents and later in life married her longtime sweetheart, Tim Eaton. Tim predeceased Alleyn in 1974.
Alleyn enjoyed adventure. In 1933 she, sister Kathleen and her Mum drove from Winnipeg to Chicago in a 1929 Oakland. In 1984, Allan Wright moved Aunt Eaton from Winnipeg to Campbell River in a U Haul. She wanted to be near young people. She was grandmother to our children and great grandmother to our grandchildren.
Aunt Alleyn had many interests; golf, art, needlework, cooking, entertaining. Thanks Aunt for all of your lessons.
