It is with sadness that the Family of Frances Mary MacDougall (nee Roehl) announces the peaceful passing of their mother, grandmother and great grandmother at the Campbell River Hospital at the great age of 91 years.

Fran was predeceased by her husband William (Bill) in 1982 and her Parents one brother and five sisters.

Fran is survived by Daughter- Marie McCoy, Sons James (Jim & Janis) & Daniel (Dan & Cleo) her Grandchildren: Kevin, Tanya, Jamie, Daniel, & Joanna and her Great-grandchildren: Rianna, Kaiden, Devon, & Ashley.

Fran is also survived by her sisters in Ontario - Verna (Archie) McPhee, & Ella (Earl) Horne as well as many nieces & nephews. Frances (Fran) was born in Orillia, Ontario to Julius & Mary Roehl. She had four sisters as well as one half brother & three half sisters from her Dad’s first marriage.

Sadly the children lost their mother when Fran was 14. School was put on hold while she helped on the farm and with the family.

Fran then set off to Toronto and received her nursing degree at The Grace Hospital in 1943. Upon graduation Fran was determined to go to Alaska and while on route nursed at various locations from Toronto to the West Coast. Fran arrived in Campbell River on the Union Steamship in 1946.

While working in the Campbell River (Lourdes) Hospital she met her future husband at the “Old” BeeHive Café. Her Alaska dream was put aside and they married in 1948 moved and worked up and down the coast at various logging camps.

Fran had her three children in Campbell River over the next few years. In 1964 when schooling for the three children became difficult the family moved from Rock Bay back to Campbell River.

Fran resumed her nursing career in 1967 at the Campbell River & District Hospital retiring in 1983 at the age of 65.

Fran loved to read the newspapers (several every day) and pick berries from her blackberry patch, which she did until last past year when her health deteriorated.

Fran was famous for her great baking she made many Christmas cakes, mincemeat and cranberry pies and donated them faithfully each Christmas for the Salvation Army Dinners.

She was much loved by her family and all those who knew her and will be greatly missed.

Special Thanks to Dr. Friderichs, the Campbell River Hospital Nursing Staff, Campbell River Home Support and Meals on Wheels for the excellent care & help given to Mom.
