It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved husband, father, uncle, mentor and dear friend Erwin Portmann.
Erwin was a proud and dedicated family man who loved and cherished not only his family, but his many close friends. A man of integrity, he was someone you could always count on. With his larger than life personality, he enjoyed and lived life “with gusto”, to the fullest. And whether it was his big heart or his big laugh, his bigger than life presence was always felt.
A well respected local businessman and Rotarian, Erwin’s boundless generosity and contributions to the community and beyond helped and touched the lives of many.
Born and raised in Switzerland Erwin immigrated to Canada in 1963, and soon after met Lisa, his wife of 51 years. Along with raising his family and spending time with friends, he thoroughly enjoyed traveling the world, and his activities of skiing, fishing, hiking, golfing, and camping.
Erwin was predeceased by his parents Otto and Rosa and his son Daniel. He leaves behind his wife Lisa, daughters Jacqueline and Christine, “adopted” son Rob Damer, brother Heinz (Margo), sister Ruth (Emil), sister in law Marcella, nieces and nephews Denise (Thom), Michael (Deborah), Karin (Thomas), and Marc (Nantheita ).
Words cannot express how much Erwin will lovingly be missed by all.
And for those who knew him well.....“YOU OWE ME!”
There will be a Memorial Service and Celebration of Life to follow at the Baptist Church on April 22, 2017 at 2:00pm.
