Hicks,

Ernest Robert Hugh

August 15, 1936 ~

February 4, 2007

With our deepest sorrow the family of Ernie wishes to announce his sudden passing. Ernie left us on February 4th surrounded and in the arms of his loving family.

Born in Long Branch Ontario, August 15, 1936, Ernie packed his bags and headed west as a young teenager, where he met and married the love of his life, Joan.

Ernie was an electrician employed with BC Hydro. He settled his family in Campbell River in 1974 where he worked at John Hart Generating Station until his retirement in 1996.

After retirement Ernie was active with both the Campbell River and Willow Point Lions Clubs. He and Joan spent many happy years enjoying their children, grandchildren, gardening, fishing, and exploring the countryside, with adventures taking them as far away as Portugal and Spain.

Ernie loved and cared for those around him, he was truly selfless and kind. He was a man of strength and integrity, a leader and role model, a true mentor. He truly understood what it meant to be a husband, father, grandfather, and brother, brother in law, uncle, and friend. His greatest joy in life was his wife, children and grandchildren for whom he had such devotion and pride.

Ernie is predeceased by his parents Alice and Reginald, sons Bill and Darrell, his brother Jack and sister in law Lorraine and sister in law Jackie. He is survived by his loving wife and partner of 45 years, Joan, daughter Anita, grand daughters Shae, Hailey and Chelsea (Crystal City, MB), sister Marge (Al, Oakville ON) Marian (Edmonton AB) Mary (Thunder Bay ON) brothers Bruce (Peggy, Colburn ON), Barry (Vicki, Campbell River BC) Brian (Marnie, Kelowna BC) Sisters in law Phyllis (Gary, Kamloops BC), Sharon (Matt, Kamloops BC), Sue (Gary, Parksville BC), as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

We, his family are thankful that he is at peace and will always remember his generosity and kindness. We will miss his incredible sense of humor and quick wit, his keenness for knowledge, his companionship but mostly for his strength and deep devotion and love for his family. He was the heart of ours, and his spirit will remain forever with us.

The family invites you to share in a Celebration of his life on Saturday, February 17, 2007, from 1:00pm till 4:00pm @ Willow Point Hall, 2165 South Island Hwy., Campbell River, BC.
