Erma Martha Budd (Neil) nee Penner passed away in Campbell River, BC December 6th, 2020 at age of 93.She was born in Hepburn, Saskatchewan on September 28th, 1927.
Erma was raised on a farm, but at the age of 17 moved to Ontario, where her first job was in a Pharmacy. It was in Chatham, ON that she met and fell in love with Douglas Roy Neil. They married and had three children.
The family moved to Ocean Falls, BC when Doug got a job there. Erma was very active in the community and was known for her amazing homemade buns and cinnamon rolls.
Unfortunately, Doug passed away at the early age of 42 and left Erma with three young children to raise on her own. She relocated to Campbell River in 1973 where she worked in a bakery and then, till retirement, at Shoppers Drug Mart.
Erma loved to garden, whether indoors or out, always finding a small plot of dirt to "play in" as she liked to say. She looked after the many indoor plants at Ironwood Seniors Home as well as a garden bed on the outside of the building and took much pleasure in that.
Erma was an avid quilter and has made a personal quilt for all her children and grandchildren as well as donating a quilt for a raffle at Ironwood every fall.
She also loved to travel, taking many bus trips south. She fell in love with Desert Hot springs and spent many winters there, soaking up the sun. She also enjoyed Hawaii and several cruises with friends.
She is very proud of her children, Judith, Tracie and Scott, and her seven grandchildren: Derek, David, Dominic, Michael, Jillian, Ryan and Amanda. She was also thrilled to have four great grandchildren: Nicolas, Marcus, Madeline and Keegan.
Erma was a feisty, determined, hard working woman who did her best for her family.
