ERIC DAVID HARRIS

October 2, 1926 – May 6, 2009

Eric passed away peacefully on May 6, 2009 at the Campbell River and District General Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

Eric will be sadly missed and forever loved by Phyllis his Wife of 54 years, his three children Sandra (Randy), Jill (Jeff) and Dale (Michelle), his beloved Grandchildren Rick (Beth), Trevor (Chris), Alisha (Jonathan) Melanie, Melissa, Colleen, Shawn, Nicole, Cameron, Brian and Tristan and his beloved Great Grand-Children Dana, Jaxson, Triston, Meleena and Harly.

Eric is also survived by his Sister Mabel, Brother-in-law Andy, Nieces Anna and Robin, and Nephew David. Eric will also be fondly remembered by his special friends, Trudy Gravelle, Edith Green and Aggie Bender.

Eric was born in Port Alberni and spent his early years living on Vancouver Island and Vancouver. He was employed by the Government working in the Department of Indian Affairs and returned to Campbell River in 1975 to finish his working career. During his career he met many wonderful people who became firm forever friends. During his working life he travelled up the coast on the “Gikumi” with Jim Borrowman in command. He never enjoyed flying in small planes, in fact he used to say all the nail marks on the seats on any small planes were his. Eric’s last pleasure trip on the “Gikumi” was just over a year ago when he and his family went whale watching from Telegraph Cove with Jim once again in command.

Eric never really retired he continued to work tirelessly at the condo complex where he lived, he was the volunteer “Maintenance Man” and he used his carpentry skills and ability to fix anything for anyone who needed his help. Eric never threw away anything, he said that there was a use for everything.

Eric’s sense of humor, his kindness and willingness to help anyone will be sorely missed by his loving family and many friends.

Eric’s family would like to thank the Emergency Staff, ICU Staff and 3rd floor nurses especially Andy and Dr. B Carswell for their loving care and support during Eric’s stay at the Campbell River Hospital.
