Elsie passed away on Saturday, December 13th, 2003 in the Campbell River Hospital. She was born February 1st, 1916 and was predeceased by her husband Robert in 1989 and sister Eva Waldref in 1993. During their lifetime in Campbell River, Elsie worked at the famous Willows Hotel, the C.R. Upper Islander Newspaper office and last, but not least, she will be fondly remembered by all the old-timers as “the cashier” at the Van Isle Theater (Tidemark) for over 25 years. She retired from that job in 1974. She enjoyed boating traveling to Europe, cruising to Alaska and many visits to see her California family. Elsie was also known to enjoy watching her grandchildren at the odd softball or hockey game. Many will remember her telling the referee that he’d missed an offside, or that it wasn’t really a strike.Elsie will be sadly missed by her family and all that knew her.

“Sleep peacefully Nana!”

The family would like to extend their thanks to Dr. Kerry Baerg, Third Floor North Nursing Staff,Emergency Room Staff, and Yucalta Lodge Staff for their dedication, kindness and support. A celebration of Elsie’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Elsie’s memory to the S.P.C.A. would be greatly appreciated.
