Peterson,

Elsie Marie

October 31, 1920-

September 28, 2006

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother, Elsie Marie Peterson. Elsie was predeceased by her husband Carl in 2003.

Elsie leaves behind her 9 children: Ray (Sandra), Carol (Ken), Susan (Doug), Dennis, Brenda (Scott), Linda (Ron), Jill (Elio), Julie (Ian) and Dale (Rhea). Elsie also leaves her loving sisters, Edith and Lucille (Tom). Elsie leaves behind one of her greatest joys, 24 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. Elsie had many special friends throughout her life here in Campbell River and in Ocean Falls. Her friends Lil & Muriel and her neighbours Lucy & Vico and Grace & Mac always held a special place.

Elsie was born in Duvall, Washington and moved to Ocean Falls at the young age of 3 months. There she married Carl and raised her large family. She was an active member in the United Church, her bridge club and had a home sewing business. In 1973, Elsie and her husband, along with the youngest children moved to Campbell River. Here Elsie worked for Nanaimo Realty, Cedar Elementary and for many years, Southgate School from which she retired. She was secretary for the Adult Day Care Society for many years, and was a member of the Happy Wanderers. Elsie believed that you should in some way, give back to your community as a volunteer.

To Maria and Denise, Mom’s care workers for the past year, we are forever grateful. The love and care that you showed for our mother will never be forgotten. You took her into your hearts and looked after her with the utmost dignity and respect. To Dr. Wood and Dr. Brown, our thanks for the compassion that you showed in the care of our mother.

We know that Mom is sitting in the garden now watching Dad tend his roses. We will miss her, but she will live forever in our hearts.

If anyone wishes to do so, donations can be made to the CR Hospital Foundation or to the Alzheimer’s Foundation.

A Memorial for Elsie will be held at Sutton’s Funeral Home, 502 S. Dogwood Street, Campbell River on Saturday October 14th at 1:00pm. A Celebration of Life will follow.
