With great sadness the family of Betty Hoover announces her passing at Qualicum Beach, November 12, 2020 at the age of 86.
Betty is survived by her loving husband Les of 65 years. Children Sandra (Warren) Gionet, Murray (Shannon) Hoover, Lyle Hoover, and Lynn Bauer as well as her many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Betty and her brother Jim spent much of their childhood growing up on a family farm on Hornby Island. She was extremely close to her cousins Owen and Lome Camey who she was always thought of as her brothers as well. She eventually moved to Campbell River where she met Les then married him in 1955.
Betty was a stay at home mom raising her children in the Campbell River area. Her husband Les was a very adventurous spirit who tried his hand at a myriad of ventures.
Les knew he often tested her limits, but was genuinely appreciative of Betty's
unwavering support.
Betty was a talented artist excelling in watercolor still life paintings, and portraits. She constantly strived to improve upon her talents and often spoke fondly of her time spent with long time painting mentor turned family friend Cindy Longland.
Betty was always using her artistic talents in one craft or another. She was also very proud of her Kwakiutl ancestry and always involved in some form of family history research or project. Guests to her home would most often see her latest projects of beading, jewelry construction or family history research spread about the dining room table.
Some of Betty's most cherished times were to return to Hornby Island, often with
children and grandchildren in tow who played and explored the same areas as she had in her childhood.
A private family gathering and service will be held at a later date when Betty is returned to the family calm at Ford's Cove, Hornby Island.
