‘Elly’ passed away on November 19th at the New Horizons Care Home. She was born to Ada & Percy Long in Edmonton in 1931. The family moved to Courtenay in 1940 and since then has lived mostly on Vancouver Island. Elly leaves her sons Gary Giese (D’Arcy & Brett); Bruce Giese (Helen, & Sara, Calvin & Kyle); two great grandchildren Kalla & Beckett.

Eleanor was predeceased by her father, mother & sisters Betty MacAuley & Doreen Long. She leaves sisters Pauline Pilkington, Patricia Molland, & only brother Harold Long and their families.

Eleanor was always interested in sports, softball, golf and curling in particular. She participated in bonspiels up and down the Island, enjoying skits and singing while off the ice and winning lots of trophies on the ice. She volunteered years ago for the Willow Point Community Club working as Bingo caller to raise money to purchase what is now the Willow Point Park; and a founding member of the CR Curling Club.

A Gathering of Remembrance will be held at Sequoia Springs Clubhouse, ‘700 Petersen Road, Campbell River, BC on Sunday, November 28th at 2 pm.

No flowers by request. Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
